Disney’s HK theme park makes loss
Walt Disney’s struggling Hong Kong theme park made public its financial details for the first time on Tuesday, revealing it made a net loss of HK$1.32bn (US$170m) last financial year.
The Hong Kong government, which has a 52 per cent stake in the park, said attendance grew 2 per cent to 4.6m in the year to October 3 2009, well short of its original projection of up to 5.6m annually.
Revenues dropped slightly to HK$2.54bn. However, the park did manage to reduce the amount lost compared with the 2008 financial year, when the park reported a net loss of HK$1.57bn.
The park, Disney’s smallest in the world, has been suffering from low attendances since opening in September 2005.
Visitors have complained that there are not enough rides and many locals prefer Ocean Park, its home-grown rival, which has attracted people to see its pandas and dolphins.
Hong Kong Disneyland faces another challenge from Shanghai, where a US$3.5bn park is due to open by 2014. It is currently undergoing a HK$3.63bn expansion.

Disneyland Paris The Place Where Dreams Come True!!!!
