Prince Charming
CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE, het buurpark van Disneyland in Californië, zet drie vrijvaltorens in de etalage. De Maliboomer wordt begin volgende maand uit het park verwijderd.
Nieuw thema
California Adventure wordt helemaal op de schop genomen nadat de bezoekersaantallen van het relatief nieuwe Disney-park – stammend uit 2001 – ver achterbleven bij de verwachtingen. Verschillende attracties krijgen een nieuw uiterlijk of een ander thema, vaak gebaseerd op een Disney-figuur. Uit onderzoek bleek namelijk dat de gasten met name Disney-characters misten in het park dat de Californische cultuur, natuur en bezienswaardigheden als thema heeft.
Fun Wheel
Zo werd het reuzenrad Sun Wheel omgetoverd tot Mickey’s Fun Wheel. De grote zon in het midden van het vijftig meter hoge rad werd vervangen door een megagrote afbeelding van de wereldberoemde muis. En ook de zweefmolen kreeg een nieuwe aankleding: van een Californische sinaasappel naar een tekenfilmthema met Mickey Mouse.
Kleine Zeemeermin
California Adventure wordt ook uitgebreid met nieuwe attracties. Op de planning voor de komende jaren staan nog een darkride met de Kleine Zeemeermin en een compleet themaland gewijd aan de Pixar-film Cars.

De vernieuwingsdrift in het park, dat werd gebouwd op het voormalige parkeerterrein van DISNEYLAND, gaat zover dat er zelfs een attractie wordt verwijderd. De Maliboomer – een driedelige toren waarin bezoekers in vier seconden tot een hoogte van zestig meter worden geschoten – wordt binnenkort afgebroken.

De Maliboomer – die gethematiseerd is als een Kop van Jut, met bovenin de bekende bel – past volgens de designers van California Adventure niet meer in de nieuwe visie van het themagebied Paradise Pier. Het verhaal rond dit themaland is een ‘terugkeer naar de romantiek en de charme van de boardwalks die aan het begin van de vorige eeuw langs de Californische kust lagen’. De Maliboomer hoort volgens Disney niet meer bij dat thema. Op 6 september maakt de vrijevaltoren de laatste ritjes met gasten.

Beginning today, October 22, the Disney Dance Crew will start shaking things up at the Hollywood Backlot Stage in Disney California Adventure park.
Disney Dance Crew is a live, 10-minute performance for the entire family that features contemporary remixes and mash-ups of popular Disney songs, and dancers performing hip, edgy dance moves. The show also includes an appearance from Mickey Mouse like you’ve never seen him before. Mickey shows off slick new threads and some crazy moves.
After each performance of Disney Dance Crew, Mickey Mouse will greet guests and pose for photos.
Disney Dance Crew will be performed several times a day, Wednesday through Sunday, until November 26. When Disney Channel Rocks! debuts November 26, Disney Channel Rocks! will perform mid-morning to early afternoon, and Disney Dance Crew will perform mid-afternoon to early evening.

* Original plans for the Carthay Theater called for the screening of a "Walt Disney Story" biographical film. The latest plans have the Blue Sky Cellar preview center moving into the space.
* An exclusive Carthay Circle Club on the upper floor of the Carthay Theater. Disney has quietly put out feelers to Club 33 members and those on the long waiting list for the private Disneyland club. The Interior of the DCA club would replicate an idealized version of an early Disney animation studio on Hyperion Avenue in Hollywood.
Paradise Pier
(A 1920s and 30s seaside amusement park-themed land with Victorian architecture.)
* An E-Ticket ride next to California Screamin', with an entrance in the helix of the roller coaster track leading to a new backstage attraction.
* A D- or E-Ticket attraction in the other helix where Maliboomer once stood. The area is currently being turned into a character meet-and-greet location. The tacky strip mall-themed Man Hat n' Beach souvenir shop façade likely remains unchanged in anticipation of this forthcoming attraction.
* An E-Ticket ride in place of Goofy's Sky School, itself a rethemed version of the Mulholland Madness wild mouse roller coaster. Current proposals for the location include an original thrill ride or a character-based attraction. An early concept called for a Ratatouille coaster to occupy the space.
* Disney's original plans called for the since-removed Maliboomer drop tower to become a Green Army Men parachute drop ride. The same "Toy Story" theme could replace the nearby Jumpin' Jellyfish ride, which was originally scheduled for removal in Disney's initial plan.
* Early plans called for the Fun Wheel Ferris wheel and the California Screamin' queue to get entrance facades to match the Paradise Pier area's new Victorian seaside theme.
* Imagineers have previously discussed Halloween and Christmas holiday overlays for the Toy Story Midway Mania dark ride.
Hollywoodland
(The existing Hollywood Studios Backlot becomes Hollywoodland, representing the 1930s Golden Age of Hollywood.)
* Transform the space around the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride into the Golden Era of Hollywood (expanding the footprint of the area into the Timon parking lot).
* Add an enclosed lobby to the Hyperion Theater and a street façade to close off the view of the outdoor queue area. Disney announced and then rescinded plans to replace the current "Aladdin" stage show with a "Toy Story" musical.
* An E-Ticket attraction in the former "Who Wants to be a Millionaire – Play It" sound stage.
* Several replacements have been floated for the "MuppetVision 3D" movie, including "Mickey's PhilharMagic" from the Magic Kingdom (which apparently won't fit in the DCA theater) and a 3-D story based on the "Chronicles of Narnia" (a film franchise recently dumped by Disney).
* Removal of the modern pop-culture signage above the shops along DCA's Hollywood Boulevard.
* The unused Hollywood & Dine food court in Stage 12 remains empty for future expansion.
Yosemite
(The former Condor Flats and Golden State lands combine to form a single land themed to a 1950s-era Yosemite-like national park.)
* Grizzly River Rapids receives animatronic bears, condors and other creatures once envisioned for the raft ride. Animatronic characters under construction for the Grizzly Trail area at Hong Kong Disneyland would fit perfectly.
* An E-Ticket ride in place of the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail. Proposals for the location include an outdoor adventure attraction or a mine-train ride.
* A circuitous train ride around Grizzly Peak as envisioned in concept art featured in the "Disney Mountains: Imagineering at its Peak" book.
* The Soarin' Over California hang-gliding tour makes way for the long-awaited Soarin' Over the World replacement.
* Convert the Cannery Row-themed Pacific Wharf food court to a San Francisco motif and combine the eatery area with the already-existing but unrealized San Francisco block.
Cars Land
(A faithful re-creation of the isolated Route 66 town in the Pixar movie “Cars” designed to evoke the automobile culture of the 1950s and 60s.)
* A drive-in theater-themed sit-down restaurant where diners eat in vintage cars while watching a movie on the big screen. The concept was part of the initial pitch for Cars Land that has since been postponed.
* A C- or D-Ticket on an unused corner of the new themed land scheduled to open in 2012.

Ze hebben ook een nieuwe meet 'n greet plaats voor Mickey op de pier voorzien. Hier komt hij in zijn Kapiteinsoutfit (erg mooi!!). Het gerucht gaat de ronde dat Duffy hier later zal bijkomen, aangezien de Disney beer niet echt het verwachte succes kent. Hier wat foto's:

First look at the royal wedding dress of Ariël
As anticipation builds for the British royal wedding on Friday, so does speculation about what Kate Middleton will wear when she weds Prince William. We have another princess getting ready to debut her wedding gown here at the Disneyland Resort, on June 3. That’s when Ariel and Prince Eric will debut in The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, an attraction inspired by the classic animated film, including the film’s wedding scene.
To find out more about Ariel’s dress and Prince Eric’s attire, I talked to the clothing designer, Gloria Bowls. She collaborated with Walt Disney Imagineer Larry Nikolai to create a look that reflects several periods of British history. Ariel’s gown, similar to the dress in the film, was largely influenced by the royal wedding of Charles and Diana in 1981 (“The Little Mermaid” film debuted in 1989).
“What was amazing about Diana’s dress was that no princess had arrived on the scene with such grandeur – larger than life,” Gloria said. “Ariel’s dress has some of that grandeur, a fantasy come to life – and larger than life. The big poof sleeves are almost as big as her head.”
Here’s a sneak peek at Ariel in her wedding finery.
Gloria designed custom wedding gowns and evening wear before taking on the challenge of designing costumes for Audio-Animatronics figures and consulting for Disney. She credits Larry Nikolai’s vision for encouraging her to let this dress express Ariel’s mermaid personality (i.e., she has this thing for “thingamabobs”).
“Ariel’s dress is made very much like a regular bride’s dress in that the bodice is fully lined, interlined and extensively boned – it practically stands up on its own,” Bowls said. “My favorite part is the front inset of the skirt … an underwater seascape with a shell, a starfish, a seahorse, all beaded and appliqued on, with seaweed lace.
“I hope each little girl will come off the ride inspired and dreaming of having a dress like Ariel’s for her own wedding day.”
These photos show Gloria as she was working on the dress, plus some of the intricate detail.
Complementing Ariel’s dress is Prince Eric’s attire, inspired by 19th century British royalty and British military uniforms. Details such as gold silk buttons reflect the aspects of courage, valor and honor.
